Every year twice a year thousands of brands converge in NYC at the Jacob Javits Center for the International Fashion trade show knows as Coterie |ENK. This is where buyers from all around the US and abroad come to buy their selections for the departments stores and boutiques. As a blogger I felt it was important to attend in order to see the newest and latest Spring 2017 collections and to get a sneak peek at the fashion to come in the next 6 months.
On September 20th 2016, the last day of Coterie, I was hurrying down the last long isle of my favorite Waspy brands such as Lilly Pulitzer, St. James and many more and stumbled upon one of my absolute FAVORITE Waspy brands Elizabeth McKay. As I started to look at the collections I saw two women beginning to pack up their station. Eventually we struck up a conversation and something tipped me off to ask one of the women, “Are you THE Elizabeth McKay?” As in are you THE designer of Elizabeth McKay (one of my favorite brands on the planet)??? Elizabeth replied, “Yes, that’s me.” Next I almost fainted with delight! Little does Elizabeth know that this meeting was the equivalent of being introduced to the president. I have grown up wearing Elizabeth McKay and bought most of my EM from Monkey’s in Winson-Salem, NC where I grew up. Needless to say she was an ABSOLUTE DOLL and even more delightful in person. So of course I had to buy even MORE Elizabeth McKay after meeting president of preppy fashion as now her clothes have more meaning knowing the designer behind the brand is amazing on the inside and out. OBSESSED!
